Your Time – The Greatest Gift You Can Give

Your Time – The Greatest Gift You Can Give

By Susan Williams

Last week I was truly inspired.  A complete stranger went completely out of his way to help me.

And I’m not talking about opening a door or letting me go in front of him in line kind of help.

No, this person actually spent quite some time trying to understand my situation. He then went way above what I ever would have expected in order to actually help me.

The really interesting part of this situation was that there was nothing really tangible in it for him to do this.

It wasn’t his job and I wasn’t necessarily going to be able to pay him back for his generosity either.

When I asked him why he did this, he told me it was because it just made him really happy to be able to help others.

After our encounter, what he may not have realized is that by him helping me, he had also inspired me to give some of my time to help someone else. In a way it was my attempt to ‘pay it forward’ for his generosity

He also reminded me that as humans – time is the one thing that we can easily give to each other that  does not cost much but in fact gives so much.

When we give our time, there’s no exchange of money, no exchange of material things – it’s just a kind hearted gesture from one person to another for no other reason than to try and make someone else’s life just a little better.

Our time is probably one of the greatest gifts that we can give to each other and it also serves to remind us that we are all really connected…. plus you never know what chain reaction you may start!
