Who Should Be Your Executor?

Who Should Be Your Executor?

As part of your Estate Planning, you will need to choose an Executor.

The Executor is the person who you name in your will that carries out your instructions once you have died.

They will be responsible to administer your estate by locating all of your property, paying any debts as well as funeral costs and taxes and then distributing the rest of your estate according to your instructions in your will. (Here is an reference document from People’s Law School on Being An Executor).

Depending on how complicated your estate is, this can be a big role and you will probably want to give it some serious thought as to who you assign it to.

The following video outlines some things to consider when selecting an Executor. It also provides some suggestions on who could play this role should you not have a family member that could do this.
