Unleash Your Creativity – Your Health Will Thank You For It

How often are you creative?

The dictionary defines creativity as: the ability to make new things or think of new ideas and if google search is any indication, chances are that it’s probably not that often.

After searching “how to be creative” over 1 billion results popped up which probably means that there is a pretty big group of people who are looking for ways to be creative.

As much as being creative is valuable at any age – research has discovered that it is extremely important as you get older.

A study that was conducted that specifically focused on the impact of cultural programs with older adults, found that those participants who were enrolled in weekly participatory art programs, at the one and two year follow-up assessments, reported better health, fewer doctor visits, less medication usage; more positive responses on the mental health measures and more involvement in overall activities. You can read more about the study here.

In another study on aging, they discovered that over time a flexible mental attitude was extremely important to limiting intellectual decline for people well into their 70s and 80s.

So, what could you unleash your creativity on – a new idea, something artistic, learning something new… whatever it is keep your brain active. As the old saying goes “if you don’t use it, you’ll lose it.”.
