Trending Topics Talk – Feeling Young, Care Worker Gender and Retiring Women

By Susan Williams

For this week’s Trending Topics Talk, I am joined by Joe Casey from Retirement Wisdom and Eileen Williams from Feisty Side of Fifty.

We chatted about some of the new research and topics that were in the media over the past week that may be of interest to baby boomers.

Here is our discussion:

The topics we discussed were;

Are We As Young As We Feel?

An article published in Business Insider shared some new research that people who feel younger than their age may have healthier brains. Granted this was a small study – only 68 people participated – but it does raise the question: Are We As Young As We Feel?

Care Workers and the Gender Gap

There was an article posted that posed the question as to whether you would choose a male or female care worker for your parent. This post also pointed out that there is a significant gap between the number of men and women who have chosen this profession.

During today’s conversation, we discuss whether we think gender matters when it comes to care workers along with how we could attract more males into this profession.

Should Women Delay Retirement?

An article published in the New York Times posed the question that given the increased longevity for women, should they in fact be working longer then men. We chat about this situation and the implications for retirement for women.
