Connect And Be Happy

Connect And Be Happy

Today, March 20th, has been identified as the International Day of Happiness. It is a global celebration established by the United Nations and is coordinated by Action for Happiness, a non-profit movement of people from 160 countries.

Over the past two years, they have focused on promoting different elements of happiness.

In 2013 they celebrated the happy heroes in our communities – those people that bring happiness to others. In 2014 it was about reclaiming happiness – sharing with each other what really makes us happy versus what may be promoted or advertised by the media as to what is supposed to bring us happiness.

This year they are suggesting that we connect with others and recognize how valuable and important it is to consciously make these social connections.

Connecting with others and having social ties is a fundamental human need that we can sometimes forget in the rush of our everyday lives but these human connections provides tremendous benefits to our overall health, happiness and longevity.

So, how will you connect with others today?

If you are looking for a unique idea on how to possibly make a lasting connection, here is one.

The following video shares research about how expressing gratitude for someone in your life and then actually sharing your gratitude with this person brought so much happiness to both people. The beauty of this exercise was not only in the giving but also in the receiving.

Is there someone that you could connect with today and let them know how important they are to you? We should probably not have to wait for an International Day of Happiness to do this but if you haven’t recently told them – this may be just the perfect day for it…
