Approaching The Over 50 Job Search

If you are over 50 and looking for a job, it may seem like a challenging and daunting task.

Whether you want to stay in your current field or change careers altogether, unfortunately you may encounter some pre-conceived perceptions of older workers along the way that you may need to deal with.

In the following video, Mark McLane, the Global Head of Diversity at Barclays offers some advice if you are over 50 and looking for work as to how you may want to approach this.

Some of the highlights of his suggestions are;

  • If you are applying for a job online, make sure that you rewrite your CV based on that specific position and ensure that you highlight and align your experience to this particular role
  • Make sure that you actively use your network and look to broadening it – especially if you are looking to expand into another field
  • Realize that there may be barriers and be ready to anticipate and deal with them. Make sure that you “address the unasked questions”
